I have worked with women of color in New Bedford—Vietnamese, African-American, Japanese-American, Cape Verdean, and others—who carry stories about cultural identity, family heritage, and lived experiences. There are few spaces in this country that exist where these and other multicultural women can develop their creative voices with culturally competent coaching and mentorship, or see their work professionally published. The solution I have created is the Multicultural Women Writers Salon and Journal, now in its second year. I have published this beautiful journal both online and in hard-copy as you can see from these actual samples. Consider being part of the next cohort of writers for the Multicultural Women Writers Salon. The program requires: 6-8 months of commitment; rigorous creative work; openness to feedback; emotional honesty about your story; and participation in a community of writers.
Here’s what you get: professional mentorship from someone with decades of media experience; your story published in a beautiful, professional journal; community participation built with other multicultural women; research support, coaching with writing and editing; resulting in a permanent cultural document for your family and community legacy.
You’ll be celebrated at a community graduation event where your story is honored, where community members hear your voice, where you’re recognized as a published author. Your work will be read publicly at other community events where attendees will be inspired by your journey.
